Help Pass the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act

According the United States Breastfeeding Committee (USBC), around 72 percent of workers who can get pregnant will during the course of their careers, but currently, there is no nationwide mandate that requires the workplace to provide accommodations for the comfort and health of pregnant people during working hours. The Pregnant Workers Fairness Act (PWFA) is a bill that would change that — and we need your help to get it passed!

The Pregnant Workers Fairness Act is a bill that was introduced in March 2021. It has passed the House and is needs to pass in the Senate. The bill would guarantee accommodations like access to a stool (for those who stand at their job) or water bottle for those pregnant or postpartum. It would also allow for accommodations for lactation. Specifically, the bill “prohibits employment practices that discriminate against making reasonable accommodations for qualified employees affected by pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions.” (Source: The bill would also make it unlawful for employers to deny employment opportunities to a person who needs reasonable accommodations nor could an employer force an employee to take paid or unpaid leave in place of a reasonable accommodation.

Help pass the PWFA to ensure that all pregnant and postpartum workers can get the simple but medically necessary support they need in the workplace. Click here to send an automated letter to urge your senators to pass this bipartisan bill, Pregnant Workers Fairness Act (S. 1486/H.R. 1065).
