DEALING WITH HEARTBURN IN PREGNANCY

Loading

That burning sensation in your chest or throat that makes you feel so uncomfortable while sleeping or just chilling on the sofa is heartburn.

Heartburn in pregnancy often times begins in the third trimester when your growing uterus is pushing up your stomach to make room for your sweet baby.

Some moms to be have also complained of heart burn just few weeks into pregnancy. Here’s why.

Reasons For Heartburn

  1. Pregnancy hormones: The increase of pregnancy hormones in the body causes a lot of changes to the regular way your body functions. This is needed to allow your baby have a safe environment to develop. Women whose hormones don’t increase properly often have complications like miscarriage, lack of foetal development which can also lead to foetal mortality if not adequately and quickly diagnosed.

  2. Oily foods

Congratulations Momma!! you have made it to your third trimester, that’s a great milestone. You must endeavor to cut down on the oily foods. Try more cereals and veggies. This is because your tummy has been pushed up by your baby and digestion rate is much slower than it used to be.

  1. Eating Late:

You should aim to eat way earlier like 3 hours before going to bed. and if you get hungry, then snack on very light meals.

If the heartburn still persists, kindly call your health provider to let them know. Its better to leave let them know than just bearing the pain. You may require some medications to alleviate the pain and make you feel better.
